Bayelsa Boat Mishap: Pastor’s Body Not Yet Found

Tragedy truck on Friday as a clergyman, his wife and others whose identities are yet to be known but believed to be church members were reportedly drowned at the Brass River in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Local sources say the victims were crossing from Odioama community in the same local government area to Brass island for a church programme when the unfortunate incidence occurred.

The accident is said to have thrown the area into confusion as rescue missions are ongoing with the hope that the missing victims could be rescued alive.



A sympathiser, Mr. Loveday Herbert, who hails from the area, took to his Facebook account saying “‎the Twon Brass River crossing is already risky, and for it to happen while they were heading out for a church programme makes it even heavier for the community. I hope the rescue efforts bring some clarity soon, and that those still missing are found.”

‎As at the time of filing this report, local information has it that the lifeless body of the pastor’s wife has been found and taken to the mortuary while search efforts are still ongoing for the rest victims.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Bayelsa State command confirmed, Mr. Musa Mohammed confirmed the incidence, adding that the number of casualties were yet to be ascertained but investigation had begun to know the cause of the boat mishap.
