APC Sets Agenda For Bayelsa Governor-Elect
3 min readThe All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has outlined expectations from the governor-elect of the state, Chief David Lyon as he takes over the leadership of the oil rich state come February 14, 2020.
State chairman of the APC, Mr. Amos Jortham, in an interview with TNN shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) handed over the certificates of return to the incoming governor and his deputy, expressed hope that the APC led administration would liberate Bayelsans from the dungeon of underdevelopment.
“For 20 years, we have been in bondage under the leadership of the PDP. Now, the people are gradually changing the old narrative. That is why you can see them coming out in their number to vote for the APC. The people now know that the APC has national connect and national connect is development.
On whether the incoming governor would be able to work with the state House of Assembly which is dominated by lawmakers of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Jortham said “David Lyon is an amiable person and there is nobody he cannot work with.
“He can be alone and still work with the opposition because of the kind of person he is. He is known for development. There will be no cause for alarm. After all, the current assembly members are yearning for change because the outgoing government has been shortchanging and oppressing them over the years.”
On what Bayelsans should expect from the incoming APC led government, the chairman said “as we all know, Bayelsa is a civil servants state. The number one thing is about human development.
“Human development is centred on paying their salaries as and when due; paying pensioners their gratuities as and when due. No slashing of salaries. These are the things that the people need.
“After that, he needs to look at the light situation because light is life, as they say. When there is darkness, evil creeps in. That is why you see those small boys attacking people here and there.
“As the APC government is coming in, the key thing it is going to focus on is the light situation. The governor is going to light up Bayelsa state so that the evil that thrives in darkness will vanish.
Also speaking, the APC chairman, Ward 5 in Yenagoa local government area of the state, Mr. Manager Fabiri, who described David Lyon’s victory as an act of God, expressed optimism that the new leadership would meet the yearnings and aspirations of Bayelsans.
“The outcome of the election portrays the minds of the people of Bayelsa state. It is true that David Lyon is a man of the people and the people’s choice.
“Having emerged as winner of the 2019 governorship election, we believe that God is answering our prayers. David Lyon is a man that will develop Bayelsa and will do things marvelously to people’s seeing.
“As a democratically elected governor, l believe that David Lyon will touch every local government in his developmental strides and I know he is going to develop human beings and every Bayelsan will feel the dividends of democracy,” he said.
On the state capital, Fabiri urged the incoming governor to keep light on in the Yenagoa metropolis as he had promised, assuring that, “come 2020, in the first hundred days of the incoming government, we shall see the difference between David Lyon and the defunct government.”
