Tourists who visited the Obudu Ranch Resort, Cross River State have expressed anger with the immediate past governor, Prof Ben Ayade for allowing the multi-billion naira resort to rot before leaving office.
The angry tourists shared their experience in a viral video on Monday, after a disappointing outing there. One of those who said he travelled to the ranch by road for about eight hours got disappointed to find out that there was no electricity or water supply in the hitherto world class facility.
The video showed other tourists who were obviously angry that they could not have their bath and had to sleep in darkness. The video also showed the snowy nature of the resort, which is part of what attracts people there.
When some of the lodgers went to the hotel reception to complain, they found out that the receptionists were not even on their duty post. Some of the workers later complained that they had not been paid their salaries for the past three years.
The ranch resort was given a facelift by Donald Duke when he was governor. He also constructed the cable car and made the place a tourism destination. Traffic to the resort was very high under his government.
His successor, Senator Liyel Imoke also took made efforts to maintain the standard. The annual marathon which that administration promoted at the ranch also made the place very attractive.
But under Ayade, the glory of the resort nose-dived. It became so bad that people could no longer visit the area.
Penultimate week, the governor, Senator Bassey Otu was at the ranch where he promised to fix things and return it to its days of glory.
