All-Day Rain Wreaks Havoc In Rivers, Bayelsa

Scores of people have been chased out of their homes, following the endless rain which started in many parts of the country in the early hours of Thursday.

A lot of people were unable to go to work or leave their homes on Thursday morning. The rain which started about 2am has continued till press time around 2pm.

The rain, according to our findings, wreaked havoc in places like Uyo, Yenagoa, Port Harcourt, Aba and other parts of the south-south and south-east.

Flood: Severe Hunger Hits C’River, Rivers Communities

 

In Port Harcourt, flood waters took over major roads and streets, including areas like Choba, New GRA, Diobu, Elelenwo, Aba Road et cetera.

The Federal Road Safety office along Aba Road was said to have been submerged as the rain poured mercilessly. Also, the Airforce Flyover axis of Port Harcourt was flooded, causing traffic snarl on that road.

In Yenagoa, many of the streets were flooded. Among them were Samphino Road, Kpansia, Tenacious Street at Edepie, Customs Road at Biogbolo, Osiri Road, Ekeki, among many others.

An environmentalist in Yenagoa, Mr Morris Alagoa said in an interview that the flooded streets was as a result of the failure of government to consider and act on a proper drainage system in the state capital.
