A’Ibom Rep Listed As 9th Most Active In 10th House Of Reps

A member of the House of Representatives from Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Unyime Idem has been listed among the best and most active members of the 10th House of Representatives.

Idem, believed to be the best in the history of legislative representation in the history of Akwa Ibom State, especially since the advent of the current democratic experiment, was adjudged the 9th most active, out of the 360 members in the lower arm of the National Assembly.

Although, the person listed as the first and most vocal, is the leader of the House, who is ordinarily vested with the responsibility to lead proceedings in the House.

But Idem is not just vocal and active on the floor of the House of Representatives. He is doing well in the area of empowerment for his constituents, attracting projects, assisting the people to be gainfully employed in choice agencies and facilitating the training of constituents in foreign lands, especially China.

Just recently, his state governor, Pastor Umo Eno jokingly described him as the China Man, largely because of the number of constituents he has sent to China for training in various fields of endeavour.

In a landmark effort to deepen accountability and transparency within Nigeria’s legislative institutions, ERGAF Africa, through its Legislative Governance Innovation Hub, announced the unveiling of the First Session of the 10th National Assembly Deliberative Barometer & Policy Focus Productivity Report on Thursday, in Abuja, where Idem was listed among the most active legislators.

ERGAF said the Deliberative Barometer was the flagship project of the non-profit, policy, civic-tech and data-driven organization committed to strengthening legislative governance in Nigeria and across Africa.

The initiative measures the plenary agility and productivity of all 469 federal legislators in the 10th National Assembly, using cutting-edge indicators to provide citizens with data-backed insights into the performance of their representatives.

“This barometer is groundbreaking. For the first time in Nigeria’s democratic history, citizens will have access to a comprehensive, evidence-based framework that evaluates how effectively the legislature delivers on its mandate.”

On Thursday, Idem has sent forth the 15th batch of six constituents to China to undergo training on high-quality development of Sesame Industry as well as community building and volunteer services.

The all-expense paid training is in fulfilment of his promise to train 100 Akwa Ibom youths on relevant skills needed for optimum efficiency and global competitiveness. The six people listed for the August batch are Imo Malachy Nkantion, Inimfon Dick Udoinyang, Ukeme Mfon Nelson, Stanley Sunday Peter, Alfred Elder Udofia and Goodnews Nse Thompson.

At a send forth ceremony in Abuja, Idem said the gesture was to equip and raise the next generation of leaders in Akwa Ibom state, with requisite knowledge and certification to play at the global stage.

“The world is a global village, so there’s need for you to be exposed to modern technology to be able to compete with your counterparts globally, so wherever you have an opportunity to work, you will not lag behind.

“To achieve this, I’m targeting to train and equip a minimum of 100 Akwa Ibomites to be self-reliant and to be able to compete with their counterparts across the world.”

“What is helping me today to do what I’m able to do and achieve is the level of training and exposure I’ve garnered over the years across the globe, and it is my desire that you do better than me”, Idem noted.
