General Overseer of the Messiah Deliverance and Salvation Ministries, Calabar, Pastor Uwem Philip is still on the run, after his church members beat up some officials of the Cross River State government who went to enforce the lockdown order of the government.

The pastor who fled the church since the Easter season with his pregnant wife and baby, had disobeyed the government’s instructions on church services and still carried on without minding the safety protocols.

When the COVID-19 Task Force visited the church, some of them were beaten to a pulp, while about four people were arrested.

Among those who were arrested, according to inside sources, were two of the pastor’s house helps. The two others were senior members of the church. They are currently being tried in court.

TNN learnt that the pastor has since switched off his phone and cut off from members of the public, to avoid being arrested.

Some of the church members have either joined other churches or have refused to go to other churches.

As at Sunday, TNN noticed that the church, which has since been sealed off, has not held any service.

A top official of the state government said the pastor may soon be declared wanted.
