The need for motorists to exercise due care and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies has been re-emphasized by the Ondo State Police command.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, reiterated this plea on Monday, following the fatal road accident where a truck crushed a nine years old girl, Fatima Ibrahim, to death.
The tragedy happened around Supare Junction, Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.
PPRO who confirmed the incident explained that, “the Ondo State Police command regrets to confirm a fatal motor accident in Akungba-Akoko, resulting in the death of a nine-year-old girl, Fatima Ibrahim.
“The victim was reportedly knocked down by an unregistered Mercedes-Benz tipper truck and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was sadly confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
“The driver of the vehicle has been arrested, and the vehicle has been recovered for inspection. An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident.
“The command commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures the public that justice will be served.”
Jimoh assured that “further updates will be communicated as developments unfold.”
