Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chieftain in Cross River, Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba has averred that one of the party’s aspirants in the upcoming Cross River North senatorial district bye-election, Hon. Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe is well known for hijacking party materials.

This was in response to the letter by the Secretary of Senatorial Primary Screening Panel, Chief Dare Adeleke where he alleged that he was attacked by Eba and 3 others.

Eba who is one of the candidates for the party’s chairmanship position in the state told this to TNN during a telephone conversation where he added that the era of hijacking of materials has ended as he has come on board to rid the party of every spot and wrinkle capable of tarnishing the image of the party in Cross River.

This is what he said: “The man was nominated by Hon. Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe and he mandated him to come and steal and hijack materials in the presence of the chairman of the panel. How can someone tell you that they gave him his letter of appointment and he was attacked? Under what basis? There are five members in the panel and he is not the chairman.

“He came to steal material and he was stopped by security operatives in the presence of all of us. Jarigbe is known for hijacking materials but this time he failed. We have gone beyond the era when people come and hijack material. The party has changed. So nobody can tarnish my image. I’m too clean. I’m a lawyer of about 15 years standing, I’m not a tout. Nothing will stop me from clearing the party from all these nonsense they do.

“He mandated him to come and steal materials and the man was caught. He could not run away with it so nobody attacked him. We are waiting for the party to take action against the man who came to steal materials”, Eba stressed. He also provided TNN with a copy of the letter written by Jarigbe to the Party’s National Chairman where he nominated Adeleke and others to be part of the panel.

Adeleke had in a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the PDP accused Eba, Hon. Chris Njar Mbu-Ogar who is the member representing Etung State Constituency in Cross River State House of assembly and three others of almost beating him to coma as well as threatening to kill him whenever he comes to Calabar.

The letter reads: “On this day, Monday 24 August, 2020, I arrived the People Democratic Party National Secretariat at Wadata House, Zone 5 at exactly 10:00am to attend to certain official duty as I was appointed secretary of the Screening Committee for the Senatorial bye-elections in Cross River State North Senatorial District.

“I entered the office of the National Organizing Secretary of the party to receive my appointment letter where I met the Chairman of the Screening Committee in the company of some people.

“On receiving my appointment letter from the secretary of the NOS I was suddenly attacked by Barrister Alphonsus Eba, Hon. Chris Njar Mbu and three others, raining blows and slaps on me and in the process tore my shirt. In confusion I struggled to escape from my attackers as they snatched my appointment letter and other documents I was holding. It took the intervention of the Policemen and security personnel at the party secretariat to rescue me from my assailants.

“Hon. Chris Njar threatened that if I come Cross River State, he was going to kill me.

“It is my humble appeal that the party members mentioned in this petition be made to face disciplinary actions. Thank you”.
