Diri Gets More Accolades For Honouring Ijaw Leaders

The Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri has continued to receive commendations for organising a historic 30th anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State where the governor honoured 60 past and serving leaders of the Ijaw nation.

President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Chief McDonald Igbadiwei, congratulated the governor, his deputy, Dr. Peter Akpe, the State government and the people for successfully hosting the 30th anniversary.

In a statement by the INC national publicity secretary, Mr. Ikosomi Barry, the INC president commended the governor for using the celebration to bring the Ijaw nation together from all parts of Nigeria and in the diaspora to Yenagoa which he described as Jerusalem of the Ijaw nation.

He described the 30th anniversary as more than a celebration but a historic home coming that provided opportunity for unity, peace building and strengthening the bond of brotherhood among the Ijaw people.

The foremost Ijaw leader called on the awards recipients to see the honour as a call to greater service, urging them to continue to work for the progress of the Ijaw nation.

As the 2027 elections drew closer, the INC president also called for peace and unity amongst the Ijaw people regardless of their political differences.

He urged the politicians to place the collective development of the Ijaw nation above parochial interests

He commended past and present leaders, especially those who contributed meaningfully to the growth of the Ijaw ethnicity and prayed to God for the goodness of Bayelsa State and the Ijaw nation at large.
