Neighbours Rescue 15-Year Old Locked Inside Toilet For Months By Employer

Investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances behind the confinement of a 16-year-old domestic worker in a toilet for several months.

The teen whose name was given simply as Amarachi, was allegedly locked in a toilet by her 34 years old employer, Mr Eze Nduibuise and his 31 years old wife, Mrs Blessing Simeon.

The incident which happened at Abuloma, in Rivers State, was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, on Wednesday.

The victim, from Ebonyi State, was confined in the toilet as punishment for an undisclosed offence. There are claims that during her alleged confinement, she was subjected to severe neglect and fed leftover meals ones everyday.

“The teenager eventually found an opportunity to call for help on Monday, September 14, when the couple reportedly left the house.

“Her cries attracted the attention of neighbours, who alerted the police at the Abuloma Division.

“Police operatives responded to the distress call and rescued Amarachi from the residence.”

In her response, the PPRO confirmed the incident, noting that the couple have been taken into police custody, while Amarachi’s family members taken her home.

According to her, “the Command is aware of the incident involving a 16-year-old girl, “Joy”, at Abuloma.

“On 13th September 2026, at about 1600hrs, the Abuloma Police Division received information that the girl had allegedly been locked inside a bathroom by Eze Nduibisi, aged 34, and his wife, Blessing Simeon, aged 31, reportedly on account of her displaying signs of mental disorder.

“Upon receipt of the information, police operatives promptly intervened and rescued the girl. Eze Nduibisi and his wife were subsequently arrested.

“The victim’s mother was contacted through her uncle, one Abbel Ude, aged 69, from Umuche, Ebonyi State. The family thereafter came to take the victim home for further care and medical attention.

“The matter is currently under investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and take appropriate action.”
