The All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency election, Mr Jaul Gaul Lebo, on Saturday went against the directive of the state government on the use of the Kizitto Attah pavilion, Ekori, in the Yakurr Local Government Area.
Last month, shortly after the PDP presidential candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, and other chieftains of the PDP for the 2027 election used the pavilion to receive those who defected from the APC to the PDP, the state government had issued a statement announcing its intention to renovate the pavilion and also banning the use of that facility for any activities.
A huge signpost was also mounted there to announce the government’s intention to renovate the place and also prohibit its use by anybody, an action that had attracted public condemnations, as it was suspected that the planned renovation was politically motivated.
But on Saturday, less than three weeks after the prohibition order and renovation plans were announced, Lebo led his team to the pavilion for a rally, after his consultation visit to Ekori.
It happened when the government was yet to begin the renovation and while the prohibition order was still in full force.
The action has already generated reactions from members of the public who have questioned the intentions of the APC government in the state ahead of the 2027 election campaigns. Some of those who condemned the action of the former speaker of the state house of assembly said it was a clear show of lawlessness.
TNN called the chairman of Yakurr Local Government, Yibala Inyang, for explanations on why Lebo was granted access to the pavilion, but he did not take his call. Lebo himself did not answer TNN’s phone call initially.
Some minutes after, Lebo returned the call and after asking to know the caller and the reason for the call, he issued a stern waring to the correspondent never to call him again. He dropped the call thereafter, without addressing the issue.
