The government of Senator Bassey Otu of Cross River State has come under intense attack following the shabby road construction project at Uduak Orok Street, off Orok Orok Street, Calabar South.
The supposed asphalted road was said to have been completed and painted, apparently ready for commissioning, about three weeks ago.
But even before the paint got dry, the road has already failed, a development that has attracted the anger of residents and motorists. They blame the state governor for the shabby job.
Mr Bassey Orok, a resident, for instance, said it was unfortunate that the quality of work had been compromised, even as he blamed officials of the government for not supervising the project.
“These people are just mocking us. See what they call a newly constructed road. It is about three weeks now since they claimed to have finished the road and even painted it. Maybe they are getting ready to come and commission this poorly done road project.
“You can imagine the people who are already experiencing heavy flooding in their houses because of this road. How can they do a road like this without proper drainage and sloping? See, the road is already cracking. It is too bad.”
When contacted, the state commissioner for information, Erasmus Ekpang, on Tuesday, he promised to get back to TNN after reaching out to his works counterpart. But by Wednesday morning when TNN reached him again, he said he was unable to speak with the works commissioner.

“I’m yet to access the present condition of the road. Yet to get across to the commissioner for work to really ascertain the present stage of the job, if it’s still ongoing or completed, what has been released so far, so we hold the contractors accountable. I can’t believe in the pictures and videos you sent to me please,” he said.
