Corps Member Gives Scholarship To Vulnerable Children In Calabar

In what could be described as an extraordinary feat, four children have been prevented from dropping out of school by a serving Corps Member of the National Youth Service Corps, Tochi Alexandra Chibueze.
The children who benefited are Esther Imoke, John Imoke from Uwanse motherless babies home and Esther Sunday David, Alexander Imo Etim from the Margaret Ekpo Secondary School, Calabar. The scholarship covers the tuition fees for their entire secondary school session.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Cross River State Government, Commissioner for humanity and social welfare, Blessing Egbara appreciated the corps member writing her name in the sands of history. “This shows the length of love she has for humanity. The history of the children cannot be easily forgotten,” she said.
The commissioner who was represented by the Director of administration of the Ministry, Dr. Peter Ipole noted that the Cross River State Government had enjoyed a lot of humanitarian services from members of the NYSC scheme. She appreciated the NYSC and the Nigerian Navy for giving her the platform to carry out the project, calling on well meaning Nigerians to emulate the corps member.
In his remarks, NYSC Cross River state Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Nakamba while speaking through the Assistant Director, Deployment and Relocation, Dimma Anyacho said the NYSC had always encouraged her corps members to be agents of change by carrying out laudable community development projects to impact positively on humanity.
Nakamba noted that it was the first time any NYSC Queen was carrying out such a massive project. He urged other serving corps members to see the act as a challenge and follow suit.
Also, Flag Officer Commanding, FOC Eastern Naval Command, ENC RA DA Adeniran who was represented by the Education Officer, ENC, Commander PS Ozah revealed that the Command was pleased when the Corps Member presented the project to them as it is line with her vision to aid Corps Members actualize their dreams.
Speaking in an interview with TNN shortly after the donation, Chibueze said “I have always had a genuine passion for education especially for the younger generation.

“And after emerging as the NYSC Queen, my passion was boosted and I vowed to do whatever I can in my capacity to ensure that the dream comes true”. She added that the project was embarked upon to assist families who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The donor who is a microbiology graduate from the Abia State University, Uturu appreciated officers of the Nigerian Navy, ENC, Calabar for being the major sponsors of the project. She revealed that she was able to realize the estimated amount of N350, 000 for the four children.
