Two officers of the Sokoto State Police command have been arrested following their alleged involvement in the kidnap of five children from the state.

The two officers, an Assistant Superintendent of Police simply identified as Kulu, alongside her accomplice, Elizabeth, were arrested by the FCT police command for allegedly abducting five children, including a less than two-week-old baby girl in the state.

Report revealed that among those abducted were three toddlers under the age of two, and a five-year-old named Asmau Ya’u, who was reportedly abducted while on her way to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto.

Their arrest was confirmed to newsmen by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Rufai, who assured that the command had commenced investigations into the alleged abduction of the minors.

The Police spokesman said “Both the suspects and victims were transferred and handed over to the command from FCT police command for further investigation into the matter.

Kulu and Elizabeth were said to have been arrested while travelling from Sokoto to Abuja in an 18-seater commercial bus when some passengers alerted the police near Abuja after noticing that the custodians of the children could not breastfeed them during the seven-hour journey.

The state official of the Human Rights Network, Sirajo Madawaki, said the case was transferred to the network office in the state from Abuja, and an investigation into the case has since begun.

Madawaki assured that the network would pursue the case to its logical conclusion and ensure that the suspects were prosecuted and the children reunited with their respective parents.
