70-Year-Old, Others Nabbed Over Attempted Murder In A’Ibom

70 years old Mr Okon Akpan, has been arrested alongside three others following their alleged involvement in an attempted murder case in Uruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Akpan, 45-year-old Mr John Samson, 50-year-old Mr Emmanuel Asuquo and 22 years old Mr Idorenyin Umoh, were also accused of cult-related activities in the LGA.

This was revealed in a statement on Friday, by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Timfon John, who disclosed that the suspects were arrested following credible intelligence.

The PPRO revealed that their arrest on March 20, 2026, at Ikot Asukpong Village in Uruk Anam LGA, was part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of violent crimes and criminal elements.

According to the statement, “the Akwa Ibom State Police command has recorded a significant operational breakthrough in its sustained efforts to rid the state of violent crimes and criminal elements.

“Following the approval of a petition bordering on alleged attempted murder, malicious damage, and cult-related activities, operatives of the command swung into action with precision and professionalism.

“Acting on credible intelligence, detectives successfully apprehended four suspects on March 20, 2026, at Ikot Asukpong Village in Uruk Anam Local Government Area.

“During the operation, one locally fabricated pistol and two long guns were recovered from the suspects, further substantiating allegations of their involvement in violent and unlawful activities.”

Further, the command assured members of the public that the situation in the area remained calm and under control, noting that proactive measures have been put in place to forestall any breach of peace.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, has reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, urging members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information to aid the fight against crime.
