2024 NYSC Batch B: Two Members Die, 17 Get Service Extension, 23 Abscond In Rivers

The National Youth Service Corps NYSC, has held its passing-out parade for the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 corps members who successfully completed their service year.

In Rivers State, NYSC organised a low key ceremony for the passing-out corps members, which was held on Tuesday at the Isaac Boro Park, Port Harcourt.

Out of 2,302 corps members posted to Rivers, two were said to have lost their lives while in active service.

17 others, made up of seven males and 10 females had an extension of service, two received pardon while 23, made up of 13 males and 10 females absconded.

This was revealed in a statement made available to TNN by the scheme Public Relations Officer, Mr. Christian Okereke, shortly after the event.

In his address, the state NYSC coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe charged the passing-out corps members to “carry the values of NYSC scheme wherever you go and create wealth with your hands.

“You have been loaded with core values of NYSC scheme, therefore, you must be positive impact makers in any field of endeavor you find yourselves going forward.”

Oleghe further enjoined them not to “wait and waste your time waiting for white-collar jobs but instead start a business in order to create wealth with their own hands.

“Think outside the box by being creative, hard working, disciplined, focused, determined, and dedicated towards building a future of their dreams for themselves.”

The low-key passing-out ceremony was monitored by a Deputy Director from the NYSC South South Area Office I, Asaba, Mr. Mayomi Sanmi.
