Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has thrown his hat in the ring. He appears very prepared to battle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
Prior to this time, the governor through his actions, had started gathering support, demonstrating his desire to take-on a task, higher than the governorship seat of Rivers State. These could be seen from his 500-million-naira donation to Northern Sokoto State, for rehabilitation of their market that was ravished by a disastrous fire outbreak.
Aside donations, he had also carefully selected leaders from various parts of the country, to commission projects in Rivers State. Signals of Wike’s ambition to join the presidential race started beeping about a year ago, when posters having his picture, name, with the inscription, “Vote Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for President, 2023” was displaced in some streets in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
It is obvious that ‘POS Africa’ has won the heart of many. Some governors and past leaders of the nation have thrown their weight on him in support of his presidential ambition, expressing optimism that the Rivers State governor, “Mr. Project” is capable of salvaging the country from its impoverished state.
To further portray their unflinching support for Wike, some die-hard followers purchased the nomination and expression of interest form for him.
Amidst all of these, it appears that the governor has as much enemies as friends. TNN took to the street of Port Harcourt on a vox pop to find out those who will vote for him and those who are very angry with Wike, so will not support him.
The general question asked was, “2023 Presidency, will you vote for Wike?” And these were the responses we gathered.
National President of Ikwerre Students, Onyebuchi Patrick Echenwo
When I have Amaechi to vote for. The National Union of Ikwerre Students Worldwide cannot support Wike for president come 2023, even if he wins her party ticket.
A youth leader in Obio/Akpor LGA, who is currently the coordinator, Agriculture Graduate Association of Nigeria, Niger Delta region, Opurum C. Loveday has this to say:
Wike’s presidential race interest, there is need for Rivers political founding fathers, stakeholders, influential personalities and the national PDP family to vehemently call on the northerners for an uncompromising solidarity.
We have always supported and stood by the north in their political ambition, it is time for them to show solidarity/reciprocate.
The nomination and expression of interest form purchased, presented by good Nigerians who are committedly yearning for a renewed Nigeria and the acceptance by Chief Barr E.N. Wike is not only a good omen for Nigeria but one of the good news that Nigerians here and in diaspora have received for the past 6 years.
Every well-meaning and right thinking Nigerian will not only celebrate the acceptance, willingness and preparedness of Wike to embark on this national emancipation and political/economic deliverance project but will sincerely return all thanks to God for convincing and giving Nigeria a man fit for the business at this critical time in our national history where hopelessness, lack of zeal for morality, untold joblessness, undernutrition, malnutrition, ritual killings, excruciating economic hardship, poor governance inflicted poverty are all dominant, prominent.
E.N. Wike is a tool for Nigerians political, socio-economic, liberation. Chief E.N. Wike is not just a name but a global/international, political brand/Icon who is both viable, saleable, indisputably productive and a conspicuous emblem of the PDP in Nigeria. Without equivocation Wike is the answer/solution to the many prayers/cries of the Nigerian populace how do I know, by their fruits we shall know them.
He is not just a talker, but a rational talker, a mover, a goal getter, a pragmatic leader, an accomplisher with evidence not mere words.
In the past two decades I can vividly say that there has not been any active, productive, result oriented, dogged and pragmatic leader who had taken this rare bold step from Rivers State to pick a nomination/expression of interest form to contest for the President of Nigeria but here we are today not only has a Rivers man broken this unhealthy political gene, chain/impediment, but a nomination and expression of interest form was purchased and presented to a Rivers Son who has convincingly shown capacity in all ramifications of governance and leadership.
Rivers people lets arise for it is a dawn of a new and invigorating political regime with Chief Barr E.N. Wike.
I and my networks endorse Chief Barr E.N. Wike for a painstaking job of rescuing and renewing Nigeria come 2023.
Again the National President, South- South Youth Initiative, SSYI, Imeabe Saviour Oscar responded:
Has he gotten the ticket?
I doubt it, if I will vote for him. He is not good in governance, he is not good in governance.
Nigeria needs a leader now, someone that has the interest of the citizens at heart, we are tired of people that are playing politics with us.
Nigeria needs a good leader, Nigeria need good leaders now.
Another youth leader in Rivers State, Mr. Golden Mbadike.
I will vote for Wike.
A right activist, Enefaa Georgewill, made a post on social media, on March 31, 2022, as regards Wike’s presidential ambition.
Wike’s presidency will be jangle over sorry fly over government. Taskforce will be major employer of youths.
Wike Knows Riverine Communities Of Rivers Will Produce His Successor –Youth Leader
Erekosima Harrison-Douglas, a die-hard supporter of the minister of transportation.
You know I am APC and a strong supporter of Amaechi.
For a stakeholder, who prefers to be addressed simply as Mr. Okopi Obla
I will vote for Wike 100 per cent. He is the best candidate and right man for the job right now.
A political enthusiast, Chuku Bright has this to say:
No nah! He is not the kind of leader Nigeria needs now. So far so good, amongst the persons that have declared from PDP, my order of choice is Tambuwal, Obi, ReNEW, Atiku, Saraki, but because I don’t wish for another Northern regime, I will go for Obi as against Tambuwal.
