With Jarigbe’s Defection To APC, C’River PDP Finally Dead

Whatever remained of the PDP in Cross River State is now gone, with Wednesday’s defection of Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe to the APC.

Before now, Jarigbe was seen as the livewire of the party and fought the APC to a standstill during the 2019 and 2023 elections, respectively.

Seen as governor of Cross River Northern Senatorial District because of the projects he attracted to the zone in his capacity as senator from the area, and being the only opposition voice from that part of the state, Jarigbe has been working hard to keep the PDP alive in the state.

A few weeks ago, he took part in the controversial Congress of the PDP, where Vena Ikem was returned as state chairman.

He told TNN on Wednesday night that he decided to leave the PDP because there was no more life in the party.

He said he made up his mind to quit after the contending interest started a legal battle over the party’s national convention.

He said he has held fruitful meetings with President Bola Tinubu and also with his state governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu and that they were delighted to have him in the APC.

He particularly spoke on how Otu received and promised to work with him.

Jarigbe said it was the people of Cross River that would be the ultimate beneficiaries, as he would be working with the governor to ensure development of the state.
