On December 22 last year, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike announced to the world that his preferred presidential candidate for the February 25 election will be unveiled.

In fact, the governor who leads four of his other colleagues in what has now come to be known as the G5, an assembly of five governors loyal to Wike, who do not believe in the presidential aspiration of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, did say that he will not only disclose the preferred candidate, but that he will campaign for him in all parts of the country.

From that day till now, Wike’s body language and speeches have shown that he is not in the mood to support Atiku. However, till date, the governor has not told the world who the preferred candidate is.

It is already the third week of January and everybody is waiting to hear from Wike. A few weeks ago, the social media captured reports that the G5 had decided to support Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate.

There were even reports that the candidate had met the Wike group and were already discussing terms of the working relationship. But Wike was to deny any such meeting, even as he also denied any decision by his group to queue behind Tinubu.

Each time Wike appears in the public and speaks on the face-off between him and Atiku, he would always make reference to the January date for the public unveiling of his candidate, thus keeping the people waiting for too long.

Having kept the people waiting for this long, it is only necessary for Wike to reveal the big masquerade so that everybody can know where he and his four other colleagues stand.

While we recall that Wike had consistently spoken of his decision to choke the opposition, including his PDP people, we think that the time has come for the waiting game to end.

To continue holding on to this information will only give room for more speculations. If Wike must speak on this, let him speak now.
