In the next few weeks, electricity supply is to be restored to all the wards in the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, courtesy of the member representing the area in the House of Representatives, Dr Unyime Idem.
Most parts of the federal constituency have been in darkness for years now, with no hope in sight for the people. In Ukanafun for example, public supply has been a prayer point for more than 10 years now.
But Idem has taken practical steps to end the years of darkness. Initially, his commitment was to ensure that electricity returned to Ukanafun, which was the worst hit. But he told TNN in an interview that he decided to expand the coverage to the entire federal constituency, with every ward getting a brand new transformer.
He also said all the accessories needed to reconnect the constituency to the national grid would be provided through his intervention, including the replacement of all the high tension cables from Abak.
Having brought in all the transformers, Idem said a committee has bene set up to ensure a successful installation in all the wards, while a second committee would be set up that would monitor the facilities to avoid vandalism.
Idem also confided in TNN that whereas work on the Udiang Anem road was underway, through his intervention, construction of the Police Station road in Ikot Udo Obobo would hopefully resume soon, and to be handled by the same contractor.
He urged his constituents to be patient with him as he was doing everything within his powers to attract more development projects to make life worth a living for them.
