Miffed by what they described as back stabbing and unbearable humiliation, supporters of Senator John James Akpan Udoedehe, a former governorship candidate and an APC chieftain, say they are waiting for the final whistle to dump the APC for any other political party that will protect their interest and that of their principal.
APC ward chairmen for Uyo Local Government who spoke with our correspondent expressed bitterness and disappointment in the way Senator Udoedehe has been cheated and humiliated by the APC.
According to Mr. Bassey Tom, APC Chairman for Uyo ward 4, “it was Senator John Udoedehe who brought the opposition movement to modern Akwa Ibom. He brought the defunct Action Congress in 2011. He has been the father of opposition party in Akwa Ibom. Udoedehe has single handedly funded had floated the ACN till when it was changed to APC.
“He continued to fund the party even when Akpabio did everything possible to silence the APC and now Akpabio just came into the party and they made him the minister, it is very painful. We will all defect to any other political party of our choice.
Speaking in the same vein, a state officer of the APC who pleaded anonymity hinted TNN that it was Senator John Udoedehe that was penciled down for ministerial appointment since Nsima Ekere and Akpabio were to be governor and senator, but at the eleventh hour, “what money cannot do, more money did” and Udoedehe’s name was replaced with Godswill Akpabio, even when he was still fighting to reclaim his senatorial election at the tribunal”
Again, a source close to the former Senator said the humiliation was unbearable. “Udoedehe is a very loyal party man who does not put his personal interest and ego before the interest of the people. In 2011, he was robbed of his mandate. In 2015, he was denied again. In 2018, he voluntarily stepped down and collapsed his massive political structure for Nisma Ekere, in honour of his party’s interest.
“While Godswill Akpabio fought for a second term in the senate, Nsima Ekere headed for the Government House, Udoedehe was promised to be given Ministerial slot that will come to the state, in recognition of his humility and loyalty to his party, but painfully today the APC has humiliated and relegated Udoedehe to political oblivion.
Udoedehe does not want political office for himself, but for his followers and the people of the state. He is one of the most comfortable politicians from Akwa Ibom who can lay claim to reasonable comfort till he dies, but for the sake of the people, he always aspires to public offices.
“Though he has refused to make comment on the issue, but if he leaves the party, we will all go with him and leave the party for Godswill Akpabio”
