At the end of the energy-sapping final, Ogundiade outshone Ojong 6-4, 6-7 and 6-2 to emerge the number one ranked tennis player of the tennis section.
In his remarks during the closing ceremony, captain of the tennis section of the club, Mr. David Alobi Alobi lauded the winner for emerging the Club number one ranked player and the runner up for putting up a good fight.
He revealed that the tennis section which was one of the biggest in the club was a social and recreational unit aimed at keeping the members in good health and physically fit.
The captain thanked the members for featuring in the annual event and all the sponsors of this year’s edition for committing their resources to the success of the tournament.
He regretted that the game of tennis and other sports had been relegated to the background in favour of football in the country.
Alobi used the occasion to appeal to government and corporate bodies to establish tennis academy in the country so as to “catch them young” and groom them for national and international competitions.
