Lawyer Condemns Abduction, Defilement Of 16-Year-Old In Rivers

A legal practitioner in Rivers State and chairperson of DO Foundation international, Uchechi Wachukwu has condemned the alleged abduction and defilement of a 16-year-old girl by a 60-year-old man in Rivers State.

The accused, 60-year-old Mr. Mgbechi Wekwe is a security personnel attached to Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumulomeni, Rivers State. He was arrested by OSPAC, a local vigilante in Aluu community of Ikwerre local Government of Rivers State and handed over to the police.

Mr. Wekwe was arrested last Thursday, January 28, 2021 on allegation of abduction and defilement of a 16-year-old girl.

TNN learnt that the girl’s alleged abduction and defilement was because she convinced her mother who is a widow not to marry the 60-year-old man who has been her lover for some time now.

Speaking with TNN a few hours after the arrest, Wachukwu charged the Rivers State police command to carry out a thorough investigation on the matter and ensure that justice prevails.
According to her, “first, I want to commend the Rivers State police command and ofcourse OSPAC in Aluu community for the successful arrest of the accused, you know until he is found and declared guilty, he is not a culprit yet.

“But most important, the Rivers State police command has to follow the matter to a logical conclusion and investigation thoroughly done, I am just getting this information now but now that we are aware, we will follow this matter up to ensure that justice is melted out for the girl child that her right has been violated, molested.”

The lawyer described the incident as, “this is the height of evil, I feel heartbroken, and I am asking how, why, how can such inhuman, devilish, wicked things be mentioned, be heard of amidst us, why? A man of 60-year-old molesting a 16-year-old girl who should be as young as his grand and even great grandchild. Which kind devil dey push people like this? In fact, if proven, then the world is sick, and I wonder where the cure will emanate from.

“I heard the medical report is out and confirms that the girl was actually raped. Again that she ran out naked after her alleged defilement, and was saved by a good samaritan. Hmm! Just 16-year-old, God help humanity, because I can’t imagine what is going through that innocent girl’s mind right now, how she is coping with this scar.”

While encouraging parents to speak up in cases of violation of right, she applauded the mother of the girl for her courage in bringing the matter up.

Wachukwu also advised that sex education be taught in churches and schools so children, especially the girl child will know how vital some organs in their body are.
Also, the mother of the 16-year-old alleged defilement survivor, Mrs. Kindness Edwin have called on the police to ensure justice on the matter.

Meanwhile, Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has commended OSPAC for the arrest of the suspect.
The coordinator of the group, Prince Wiro in a statement during the weekend said the report that the security personnel was arrested on his way home after close of work confirms the position of the organization that the suspect has been reporting to duty contrary to the claims by the School Management in a statement credited to the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Ngozi Okiridu that the suspect has stopped coming to work.

Wiro called on the police to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter with a view to serving justice to all the parties involved.
TNN was briefed that efforts were afoot to transfer the suspect to Aluu divisional police headquarters where the matter was reported.
