Land Grabbers Go Wild In Rivers Communities

An elder statesman in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Apostle Gabriel Amaewhule has called on government to come to the aid of land owners in some Rivers Communities, following the activities of land grabbers.
Speaking with TNN in his residence on Sunday, July 18, 2021, Amaewhule called for the immediate intervention of the government, warning that land grabbing was gradually becoming a profession in communities in Obio/Akpor LGA.
According to him, land grabbers had formed association with which he said they used in grabbing people’s lands.
Amaewhule said security agencies and some relevant associations were being used by the grabbers to fight against the bonafide owners of land in Obio/Akpor.
“I am here to discuss on the issue of land grabbers in Obio/Akpor. It is now an order of the day in all the communities in Obio/Akpor that land grabbers have formed association that they use in grabbing people’s land and they have been using our security agencies, and relevant association to fight against the rightful and bonafide owners of land in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, terrorizing the people, arresting and persecuting them and whenever the owners of the land call police, they will not give them attention required.
“We take like a place called Owuru land owned by Rumukaraka community in Rumuowha, Eneka clan. Land grabbers have made them to be in the court for a couple of years; even as I speak to you as a man of God, I have been in the court because of the arrest the land grabbers arrested me in 2019, I am still in court as we speak now, on a matter that I did not know, accusations that I do not know. So, I am calling upon the government to come to the aid of the communities affected.
“Even as we speak, there is a man at Rumuesara called Mr. Adol Amadi, his land has been invaded by land grabbers and we are against it in totality, even in the Christendom, because the Bible says thou shall not covet thy neighbour’s property but today they are coveting people’s land to their land, they are coveting it at all force, so, we are calling on government to come to the aid of the affected communities to reduce this crime, it’s becoming a profession in Obio/Akpor, when they have formed an association, they gang up against people and come into a land, and they will grade more than thirty something plots, forty something plots, that does not belong to them, creating hypertension to the owners of the land.
“We also appeal that the judiciary should be conscious of their judgment, concerning how they are been bribed and judgment is been given to them fakery, creating rooms for more problem, incessant death, premature death of young men, so we are appealing finally that government should put a law on the issue of land grabbers, so that it will stop, an appeal that the commissioner of police, the IG, all the CPs, the commander of Nigeria force, Nigeria Army, the Airforce commander should stop receiving gift of land that does not belong to the owner; they should stop receiving the gift, giving room for them to be used against the communities, the names of the force are being tarnished.”
