A two-month old baby girl was among other victims that were rushed to Rumuji health center, following an accident that occured on Saturday.
The tragic road accident which left passengers injured happened as a trailer rammed into a bus from behind, causing the bus to lose control and somersault multiple times on the highway.
Mr Promise Wosu Junior, popularly known as Wene Port Harcourt, and his team rescued the baby and other victims of a tragic road accident.
Wene Port Harcourt who is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest distance covered on foot, revealed that the baby was injured on her head, the mother’s left arm was badly affected, while other passengers had different degrees of injuries.
In an interview with TNN, Miss Ayomide Olawuyi, a member of the team who spoke on behalf of Wene Port Harcourt, explained that, “we are on our way to Bayelsa, around Ahoada axis, on our way going a trailer hit a bus and the bus somersaulted and scattered on the floor and stopped right at our back.
“First, we drove forward and then parked. So everybody had to leave everything to go and rescue the people and that’s what happened.
“A little child and the mother were in the bus. We took them to the health center at Rumuji, that’s where they are. The child had serious injury but they put bandage on her head. The baby is just two months.
“We thank God that we came in on time because people were just watching, it’s best that we were there and we had to leave everything we were doing. They entered the car and we drove them to the nearest hospital which a bike man directed us to.
“People were just busy doing other things, it’s really disheartening.”
On the 1,050 farthest distance covered on foot, she revealed that it would not affect the movement. “We wanted to use it for our break but I don’t think. We will have to start a fresh, we are starting afresh. It can start here, it’s the kilometers that is counting.”
31-year old Promise Wosu Junior, who kicked off the exercise at the University of Port Harcourt, is expected to walk from Rivers State to Lagos for a period of eight days; March 14 to 21, 2026.
Wene Port Harcourt, from Ikwerre ethnicity, is a graduate of the Department of Accounting, University of Port Harcourt.
In October, Wene attempted this walk, covering a 606km from Lagos to Port Harcourt, from the 17th of October to 21st October, 2023.
Then, he told TNN what formed his decision to run from Lagos to Port Harcourt on foot. He said, “it’s a very long story and a very sad one actually. I see possibilities where people don’t see that, and I always try to make a difference.
“I might not be an athlete kind of, but I believe that, I have this drive, even right from my family, I left home not knowing anybody in Lagos, survived in the cold, in the hands of strangers I was treated badly, chased out of the house.
“I have faced disappointments, betrayal, so I just want to try out something that is really not possible, I don’t care about the pain, I don’t care about anything, all I care about is fulfilling my mission.
“I’m also a photographer and owns a media film in Lagos (Julens films). I love to see people succeed and this will be a great motivation for people out there to dare the impossible and get the best out of life, I fell into depression since 2019 after hosting two simultaneous failed comedy shows in Isiokpo community, Sabinus helped talked me back to my feet and I left to Lagos for a fresh start and now I’m here.
“Nigeria is filled with opportunities and from my record setting, people will expand their thoughts process and get the best out of the country and beyond. It has never been an easy one as no one has supported this journey but I’m determined to do it regardless
When asked why he chose this particular mission, he said, “well, I think this is just the first of its kind that I’m going to try out, there are other impossible stuff I will try out after this.”
“Even uptil now most people don’t even believe it but come next week Tuesday all eyes will be on Facebook and Instagram, they will see it, I will be in Port Harcourt, on 21st October, 4pm or so.”
“It’s something I prepared right from when I was a kid, because I love adventures, I take pictures, I document things by myself, I don’t really care what anyone want to say about it, once I achieve my aim and my dream I come back to Lagos. My coming back to Lagos is also another story, but let’s just finish this first part. I know it is something that is unbelievable, it will be the first of its kind in Nigeria and Africa.”
He also reacted on the aspect of insecurity in Nigeria. According to him, “there is nothing to fear about, it’s my country, it’s our country, and when they see me with the Nigeria flag, because I will be running with the Nigeria flag, I believe nobody can harm me.
“I just want to make a difference and impact lives because I lost motivation, what you see as impossible, I can prove that it is possible if you put in the efforts and the work required, it’s just based on your mindset and decision.”
Promise added that, “I am a graduate, I finished from UNIPORT 2019, Accounting. I struggled all through school from my year one till final year, the suit I used in my project, I borrowed it, like I struggled throughout school, I didn’t have money for text books, nothing. Well, it’s fine, I had to move to Lagos and till date I haven’t even done anything with the Accounting I studied because I couldn’t get my ICAN, and I didn’t really have passion for the Accounting.”
