Governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade on Friday disclosed how the House of Representatives member for Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency encouraged him to join politics.
The governor said this while receiving members of the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on the decongestion of the eastern ports in his office in Calabar. While introducing Egbona to his colleagues, he described him as an asset to the state.
Egbona, a former chief of staff under the regime of Senator Liyel Imoke, is the deputy chairman, House committee on petroleum. He is the only one that won his election under the banner of the APC in the state.
While Ayade is of the PDP, Egbona is of the APC. The PDP is seriously battling to get the Abi/Yakurr seat from Aegbona. The election case is now before the court of appeal.
At the visit, Ayade said “let me specially recognize the son of cross river that make us very proud. “Alex Egbona is a celebrated name in Cross River State; you cannot say you are a politician in Cross River if you have not had opportunity to share his blessings.
“I remember in my days when I was just still a rich oil guy, we met in south Africa and he said why are you not coming into politics, it’s young, brilliant people like you we like to see in politics.
“Alex is a great man with a good heart. In Cross River we don’t know party barriers, our relationship is perfect we do trans-boundary politics. As far as we are concerned, he is just a PDP man who is in APC today.”
Then he looked at Egbona directly and said “son of the soil, the great son of the soil, you are really welcome back home and we are proud to have you here.”
