Diri’s Defection From PDP Excites Bayelsa APC Chieftain

Founder of the Pastor Reuben Initiative For Good Leadership and Accountability, PRIFGLA, and chieftain of the APC in Bayelsa State, Chief Reuben Clifford Wilson is excited that the state governor, Senator Douye Diri, has finally decided to quit the PDP.

Wilson who is one of the strongest supporters and loyalists of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said in a statement on Wednesday, shortly after Diri’s resignation from the PDP, that Diri had taken a good stance in the interest of the state.

Last month, Wilson had organised the first of its kind solidarity rally in the state. During the rally, which was organised under the PRIFGLA, the group mobilized over 5000 youths, women and political leaders, including some appointees of the president from the state, to drum up support for the president, even as he urged the APC leadership to resolve the leadership crisis in the state chapter.
Although Diri did not announce his membership of the PDP on Wednesday, it is already common knowledge that he is joining the ruling party. The date for his formal entry is being awaited.

On Wednesday, Wilson said one of the greatest things to have happened to the APC in the state was the decision of the governor to leave the PDP.
“Today is a wonderful day for us in the APC in Bayelsa State. It is even moreso for those of us who believe in the capacity and character of the president of this country, and his undying desire to turn things around for good.
“While we wait for that day that our governor will join the ruling party, I cannot but welcome him to the winning party, where the hopes of Nigerians are being renewed for good.
“This is a very cheering news for all progressives in this state. Believe me, the governor has made the right decision to join the gang of progressive minded Nigerians. With his coming on board, it means that Bayelsa will now be connected to the centre.”
Wilson, a former freedom fighter, said in a statement that “all Bayelsans should take advantage of this development and join His Excellency in the APC. This is the place to be; this is where progressives belong, this is where people who are development oriented belong.

“I believe that this is the solution to the leadership crisis I have cried about in recent times. With the governor in our party, it means the leadership question in the Bayelsa APC has automatically been resolved. We can now move forward as a party that has the people’s interest at heart.”
He urged the governor to ensure that the party is united, the moment he joins the APC officially. “My desire from him is for him to do whatever he can to unite the party and bring everybody under one canopy.”
