Natives and residents of Cross River State, have been warned against taking laws into their own hands.

The State Commissioner of Police, Rashid Afegbua, gave this warning while condemning the action of a mob in an incident that happened on Sunday, in the Abangasang area.

The angry mob was said to have beaten a suspect into coma for allegedly attempting to rob a woman at Mbora Street.

When rushed to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, the suspect was pronounced dead and a Beretta Pistol loaded with three live 9mm rounds was recovered.

Afegbua appealed that suspects arrested by private individuals must always be handed over to the police for proper investigation and prosecution.

He also urged residents to provide credible information to the Police.

Meanwhile, three persons have been arrested in connection with the mob killing of the suspected robber.

They were arrested by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Dragon Squad led by Chukwuma Ogini and are currently in custody at the command headquarters in Diamond Hill while investigations continues.
