The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week ongoing warning strike just ten days after it started.
ASUU President, Chris Piwuna,, announced the decision on Wednesday at a press conference in Abuja, and directed all lecturers to resume work on Thursday(tomorrow).

Recall that last week, the union had embarked on a two-week warning strike over the government’s failure to fulfill its long-standing promises.
According to Piwuna, the strike was suspended following on the “fruitful engagement” with government representatives during last week’s negotiations. The decision was taken after an emergency meeting with the National Executive Council (NEC) of the ASUU in Abuja between October 21 and 22.
However, he warned that ASUU would resume the strike if, after one month, the government did not keep its part of the bargain.
The National Executive Council (NEC) concluded to grant the government a grace period of one month to resolve the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement and address all other pressing issues affecting the Union, Piwuna said.
He further stated that he expects the government to use this period to resolve other problems and bring everlasting peace and stability to the affairs of the university system
