A fresh battle line has been drawn between the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and Senator Magnus Abe, a former secretary to the Rivers State government. This follows the appointment of a 5-member caretaker committee to run the affairs of the APC in Rivers State.
The committee is to be led by Barr Isaac Abort Ogbobula and was set up with the aim of achieving a smooth, credible, free and fair Wards, Local Government and State Congresses of the party.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also approved Mr. Friday Kinika Owhor, Mrs. Beatrice Amobi, Prince Abolo Stephen and Mr. Baridon Badom as secretary and members of the committee.
According to the statement, the committee will kick start with ward congresses holding on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. Other activities according to the statement will hold as follows; Wednesday 18th to Friday 20th September, 2019; appeals arising from ward congresses.
Saturday 21st September, 2019 is for LGA congresses, Monday 23rd to Wednesday 25th September, 2019, appeals arising from state congresses, Saturday 28th September, 2019; State Congresses, Monday 30th September to Wednesday 2nd October, 2019; Appeals arising from state congresses.
The development has sparked off another round of crisis of interest between Amaechi and Abe, who have always been at daggers drawn in their effort to control the structures of the APC in the state.
It was the same fight that resulted in the party not being able to field any candidate for any of the elective offices during the last election.
