There was a shout of joy at the Permanent Orientation Camp Nonwa-Gbam Tai, of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Rivers State, as fresh hope emerged that contractors would soon be mobilised to site for the construction of the 2,000-bed hostel accommodation for corps members.
This was revealed on Friday, during the swearing in ceremony of 2026 Batch C stream 1 corps members deployed to the state for the one year service, where the governor was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, office of the Secretary to the state government, Dr. Promise Oguzie.
Overwhelmed by this assurance, the corps members poured encomium on the state government, promising to make positive impact across the state.
NDDC Empowers Persons with Disabilities in Rivers
On Tuesday, December 10, 2025, during the closing ceremony of 2025 Batch C orientation course for corps members deployed to the state, held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai, Fubara had promised that the state government would construct a new 1000 capacity hostel for male and another 1000 capacity hostel for female corps members.
After the long wait, the project has supposedly been approved and contractors would soon be mobilised to site.
Addressing the corps members during the swearing in, Fubara described them as critical assets to the growth and development of the state.
In his words to the management of the scheme, the governor charged them to “continue to evolve through pragmatic reforms that will continue to be relevant to the dynamics of today’s graduate youths.
“Expand the scope and operations of the flagship programmes that has continued to make the scheme more impactful, relevant and acceptable to Nigerians.
“Repay Nigerians the trust reposed in you by being intentional to play the part of integrity, honesty, patriotism and fear of God when you serve as INEC ad hoc staff that will conduct the 2027 general election.”
In his welcome address, the State NYSC Coordinator, gave the assurance that the corps members were physically, mentally, psychologically and emotionally ready to serve the fatherland and make positive impact across the state.
He appreciated the governor for his approval for the construction of 1000-capacity hostel each for male and female corps members, as well as the building of a new NYSC state secretariat and State Coordinator’s lodge.
Oleghe expressed optimism that the contractors for the projects will soon be mobilized to site.
The oat of allegiance was administered to the 3414 corps members by Justice Frank Onyiri, on behalf of the Chief Judge of the state.
