The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Saka Adewale has charged tactical commanders to uphold professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.
He gave the charge during a briefing with tactical commanders at the command’s headquarters in Yenagoa, stressing that the effectiveness and reputation of the Nigeria Police Force depended largely on the conduct and quality of its personnel.
Ajao commended the officers for their role in maintaining the peace and security across the state and urged them to remain proactive, vigilant and responsive to emerging security threats.
He, however, warned against extortion, unlawful detention, torture, unreasonable bail conditions, and other unethical practices, stressing that such conduct would not be tolerated under his leadership.
Furthermore, the CP directed the commanders to ensure that all police operations and investigations were conducted strictly within the confines of the law, with due regard for human rights, accountability and professional ethics.
He emphasised the need for credible intelligence and effective operational strategies in tackling crime and maintaining public safety.
The commissioner of police reiterated his commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the command and charged the tactical commanders to uphold the standards expected of specialised policing units.
He noted that professionalism, integrity and measurable results remained essential to earning public confidence.
