The Rivers State government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery as steady progress in healthcare reforms continue to position the state on the path to a more efficient primary healthcare system.
The state primary healthcare has recorded successes in implementing reforms aimed at improving access to quality healthcare across the state.
The Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, who is also the chairman of the state tasks force on Primary Healthcare, revealed this during the 2026 Second Quarter Review Meeting of the Task Force at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Monday.
She commended members for their commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery across the state.
Describing their performance over the past three years as progressive and encouraging, Odu said the task force had continued to record significant improvements through teamwork, healthy competition and dedication to service.
The deputy governor noted that every member of the task force was striving to improve on previous performances, a development she said was driving better outcomes in the state’s primary healthcare system.
She urged participants to make the review meeting concise and result-oriented by limiting presentations to key achievements, identified challenges and practical recommendations for addressing them.
According to her, “shorter, more focused deliberations would allow the task force to devote more time to implementing solutions that improve healthcare services across the state.”
Odu also praised the Secretary of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr Chituru Adele, for providing what she described as effective leadership and ensuring smooth coordination of both administrative activities and field operations.
She said feedback from health workers and visits to healthcare facilities across the state had shown noticeable improvements in service delivery and operational efficiency.
The deputy governor stressed that the secretary’s success reflected the collective efforts of every member of the task force, emphasizing that sustained collaboration and synergy remained critical to achieving the objectives of the state government’s primary health care agenda.
