The Bayelsa State Police Command says it has arrested the son of the paramount ruler of Okodi community in Ogbia Local Government Area of the State, Ibomanetein Oweifa, for allegedly setting a suspected thief ablaze.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Musa Mohammed, said the command immediately swung into action following credible information about the ugly situation.

“Immediately the command was alerted, the suspect was arrested through the Divisional Police Headquarters, Otuokpoti division.

“As we speak, the suspect is in custody and investigation has commenced. Upon conclusion of investigation, the suspect will be charged to court,” he said.

The PPRO added that the victim had been rushed to a nearby clinic, noting that he was responding to treatment.

A viral video circulating on the social media showed a man spraying inflatable substance suspected to be fuel on another man whose two hands were tied to his back and was thereafter set ablaze.

Meanwhile, concerned citizens have taken to the social media, urging the

state governor, Senator Douye Diri to ensure that the suspect was brought to Justice.

The incident involved setting another person ablaze over accusation of theft involving wood.

They feared that the people of Bayelsa State might question the effectiveness of legal governance if such acts of cruelty and injustice were not addressed.
