AIG Reaffirms Commitment To Peace In Rivers, Bayelsa

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 16 Police Command, Mr. Johnson Adenola has reaffirmed his commitment to sustain the existing peace and security across Bayelsa and Rivers States that make up the zonal command.

Adenola made the statement in two separate speeches when he paid courtesy visits to the paramount ruler of Okaka Community and the Deeper Life Bible Church in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

During the visits, the AIG who was accompanied by senior police officers of the zone, engaged with the paramount ruler, council of chiefs, community leaders, women and youths.

According to a statement by the zonal Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Gunn Ewhobowho, the tour was centred on strengthening police-community relations and to familiarize with Okaka as host community to the zone.

The AIG address appreciated the Okaka community for their warm reception, emphasizing that effective policing requires the active support and cooperation of members of the public.

He encouraged the leadership and youths of Okaka community to support the zone as it commences the construction of a permanent zonal headquarters which is also situated in the community following the approval of land by the state governor, Senator Douye Diri.

The AIG also encouraged parents to advise and guide their children to desist from social vices such as cultism, drug abuse and cyber crime related offences, ensuring that youths of the community with requisite skills absorbed during construction of the permanent site, urging them to be part of safeguarding public infrastructure.

In his response, the paramount ruler of Okaka community, Morrison Itelimo Odede , expressed appreciation to the AIG for the visit, describing it as historic and impactful.

Noting that the engagement has further strengthened unity and renewed confidence between the zone and Okaka community, the paramount ruler assured the AIG of his continued support.

In a similar vein, the AIG and his entourage proceeded to the Deeper Life Bible Church at its camp ground in Okutukutu-epie, where he was received by the State Pastor, Friday Abraham who thanked them and promised to support the zonal command with prayers.
