John Ovie, YENAGOA

Barely a week after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was in Bayelsa state to commission high profile projects, the state governor is again set to commission another road infrastructure project.

A statement from the government confirmed that the former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo will be in the state today to commission the just completed Oxbow Lake-Agbura Road project.

On the 10th of this month, president Tinubu was in the state for a one-day presidential working visit where he inaugurated signature projects including the 60-megawatt independent power plant, the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, the 40-kilometre Sagbama-Ekeremor Road and the government house bypass road.

The people of Agbura community say they will remain grateful to governor Douye Diri for alleviating their suffering as they can now assess Yenagoa, the state capital with much ease.

A resident of the community, who hails from the eastern part of the country, Mr. Ezenna Freeborn told TNN that the Oxbow Lake-Agbura road is a dream come through for him, saying he owes Diri great appreciation.

“I sell at Swali Market and I stay in Agbura. With the completion of this Oxbow Lake road, Swali market has become a stone thrown to me.

“In fact, governor Douye Diri is a blessing to Bayelsa state. The whole state is very, very peaceful and the governor is constructing very important road networks across the state. I am so grateful.

“This is the kind of development and empowerment that we want. We don’t crave for government to share money that is meant for development to individuals and you call that development?

“Even if government shares 100 billion naira amongst the people of the state, how much will each person get? But if that same amount is channelled into raid infrastructure, its multiplier economic effect will be felt your many years and that is what the Bayelsa state governor and his team are doing and we commend him for that, Freeborn said.

Also commenting on the proposed commissioning of the Oxbow Lake-Agbura road project, Mr. Kenneth Izibeya, a resident of Agbura lauded the governor Diri led prosperity government, stating that “this is the true meaning of prosperity because it benefits everyone. There’s no one that does not use road infrastructure.

“I pray that God will continue to give the governor the enablement to embark on projects that will benefit all Bayelsans and everyone body living in the state. I pray that continues like this and finishes strong.”
