National Youth Service Corps NYSC, has been described as a vital institution for grooming young graduates into responsible leaders and promoting national development.
The Secretary to the Rivers State government, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, gave this description in his office on Thursday, when he received the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Moses Oleghe, and his team, on a courtesy visit.
The SSG commended what he described as the significant contributions of corps members across the state, particularly in education and rural healthcare services.
Wokoma who is also the chairman NYSC state governing board, said, “NYSC scheme is a formidable institution for mentoring and molding elite graduate youths for efficient and effective sustainable leadership and overall development of the country.
“I am delighted with the enormous contributions of corps members across the state, especially in the area of teaching and learning, as well as rural healthcare delivery.”
The NYSC governing board chair assured the scheme of the continuous support of the current administration of the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Wokoma also promised the successful execution of every programme and activities under his watch.
He further expressed commitment to ensure, “a fruitful working relationship with the state coordinator in order to expand the frontiers of the Scheme for the benefit of the good people of Rivers State.”
Earlier, the NYSC state coordinator informed the SSG that his visit was to familiarize with him and congratulate him on his appointment.
On the performance of his predecessor, Oleghe said, “he did exceedingly well for the NYSC scheme by facilitating regular payment of state allowance to all corps members, comprehensive renovation of corps members hostels in camp, donation of hilux utility vehicle to the South South Area Office II to boost their operation.
“He also ensured the approval of the governor to build 1000 capacity hostel each for male and female corps members at the camp, approval for the building of a new NYSC state secretariat and allocation of land to build state coordinator’s lodge.”

Further, the state NYSC boss expressed optimism that the new SSG’s tenure in office will attract even more achievements for the scheme.
