COVID-19: Azaiki Donates Automatic Hand Washing Machine to Bayelsa Govt

As part of his contribution to support the Bayelsa State government’s fight against COVID-19, the member representing Yenagoa/Kolokuma-Opokuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Prof. Steve Azaiki has donated an automatic hand washing machine to the state government.

Personal Assistant to Azaiki on Project Monitoring and Implementation, Mr Temeoweitari Okidi made the presentation at the Bayelsa State Government Secretariat, Ovom Yenagoa on Monday.

According to him, it was to enable civil servants coming into the premises wash their hands at the entrance without having to touch the hand washing equipment.

He explained that the machine is operated by a large duracell battery which powers the censors of the automatic hand washing tap, while a lever at the base of the machine, when stepped on, activates the flow of the liquid hand washing soap; the large box at the top of the machine holds the water reservoir.

Okidi revealed that other contributions of the federal legislator to the fight against COVID-19 include sensitization and awareness campaigns across the state, as well as giving out medical consumables such as face masks and hand sanitizers.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the State Government, Deputy Chairman of the Bayelsa State Covid-19 Task Force, who is also the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry Of Health, Dr Inodu Apoku expressed gratitude to Azaiki for his concern and numerous contributions to the government’s Covid-19 response.

He stated that the government has been doing its best to contain the spread of the disease and assures that the hand washing machine will be put to good use.

“As you know, the state government has been at the top of the fight against Covid-19 and you can see that we have been able to contain the spread of the disease in the state.

“It is my pleasure to receive this donation and I can assure you that it will be put to the best use to strengthen the government’s Covid -19 response,” Apoku stated
