Covid-19: Newest Bayelsa Patient Visited from Abuja To Resolve Family Issues-Govt

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health in Bayelsa state, Dr. Inodu Apoku has revealed that the new case of Covid-19 in the state is a Bayelsan retiree who resides in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja but returned to the state in March, 2020.

The PS made the revelation on Monday while briefing newsmen on the updates of the coronavirus pandemic in the state following the announcement of a new case by the Nigerian Centre for Decease Control (NCDC) late yesterday, taking the total cases in the state to six.

Apoku, who doubles as the Co-Chairman of the state Covid-19 taskforce said “this new case is a retiree in his early sixties. He is a Bayelsan who resides in the FCT.

“He returned to Yenagoa in March 2020 to resolve some serious family conflicts and took ill sometime in April and was subsequently taken to a private hospital in Yenagoa early this month.

“The state Covid-19 Rapid Response Team was called to review the case. After reviewing the case, the response team proceeded to collect samples for covid-19 test.”

Apoku noted that the new case had been evacuated to the NDUTH isolation centre at Okolobiri while the hospital where he was being treated had been shutdown and decontamination process had begun.

He added that all the contacts of the new case had been enlisted and would be adequately follow up.

He also revealed that the index case and two other covid-19 patients had fully recovered and tested negative for the dreaded coronavirus.

The PS stressed that the state governor has given an order to compulsorily isolate everyone that returns from Lagos, Abuja, Kano and other covid-19 high risk states for a period of two weeks.
