Again, Court Bars Wike’s Lawmakers

Sacked members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have again been barred from parading themselves or holding any meeting in any part of the state as members of the legislative are of the government.

The interlocutory order came on May 29, from a state high court presided over by Mr Justice C.N.Wali, following a suit by the speaker of the Assembly, Victor Oko Jumbo and two others, against the 25 former members loyal to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Also joined in the suit are the governor, Sim Fubara, the state attorney-general as well as the state chief judge. The court also ordered that the state governor should not entertain any communication from the sacked lawmakers.

The new legal action may have been necessitated by the suspected moves by the Wike’s men to hold meetings or legislative sitting at their official quarters, having been earlier barred from sitting in the Assembly complex.

Recently, there have been speculations that the sacked lawmakers were plotting to impeach the governor. It came at a time that they were said to have approached a court to deny ever defecting from the PDP to the APC, even though their defection was in public glare and recorded on video.
