TNN At 6: We Renew Our Commitment To Responsible Journalism

2 min read

Six years ago, this newspaper, hit the streets of some states of the south-south-Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River. We came into the nation’s newspaper industry, not just to add to the list of newspapers in the region, but to make a lasting impact and redefine journalism practice, especially in the Niger Delta.
We decided to carve a niche for ourselves through the quality of our printing, news reports and indeed the exclusivity of our reports. We did not pretend to call ourselves a national newspaper. From the onset, we made it clear that our focus is to report the Niger Delta adequately, giving a voice to the voiceless in the region.
Our first edition was dated November 13 and in that edition, we paid attention to a dying young man who needed help. Since then, we have continued to ply our trade with professionalism and candour.
Yes, there have been challenges along the way. But we have been able to weather the storms and remain afloat. For six years, we have been on the streets consistently. We have remained resolute, in keeping with our motto: a commitment to professionalism.
We have had our ups and downs. There have been times when it seemed that we could not continue. There have been times when we had to face legal battles. There have been times when we faced threats. There have been times when we lacked and need finances to keep going. And there have been times of gracious supplies from above. In all of this, we have remained conquerors, unshaken, always abounding unto the good works that we chose to do for the Niger Delta.
We have won awards in the process. We have enjoyed tremendous patronage from friends, governments, the business and religious communities et cetera. As we mark our six years of robust journalism, we thank all those who have been with and for us.
Looking into the years ahead, we can only promise better days. We will not disappoint those of you who have continued to buy our newspaper and also follow our activities online. We thank you immensely for believing in us. Better days are ahead.
