1 min read

As Akwa Ibom State celebrates the anniversary of the state’s creation, a former commissioner of health and a professor of gynaecology, Asukwo Davis Ekanem says the industrialization project of the government of Udom Emmanule in Akwa Ibom State is a scam and a bold step in the wrong direction.
According to him, the entire project was window dressing and a policy action without political will. He reasoned that if the state government were sincere about industrialization, it should have started from revamping the moribund industries, which are left in the bush.
Ekanem mentioned the Aluminium smelter company of Nigeria ALCON, the wasted Biscuit Company in Ikot Ekpene, the abandoned Battery industry in Essien Udim, the rusted Qua Steel in Eket, the ceramic industry in Itu, the Asbestos factory in Oron and a host of other “viable” industries which were initiated and executed by the late Dr. Clement Isong.
“How many of these industries are visible? Where are they located and how many people are working there?
