Controversy Trails Payment Of Teachers' Salaries In Rivers

Claims and counter claims have trailed the issue of payment of teachers' salaries in Rivers State. While the state commissioner for education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku, is saying that no teacher is being owed salaries, the chairman of the state wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Nkpogone Dumnataah, insists that the state is owing teachers for about six months.

Dickson's University of Africa: Developing Infrastructure Vs Economic Survival

Trending recently is the determination of the Bayelsa State government to see through the development of a private university in Toru-Orua in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state. Construction work is ongoing at the site of the university at the moment. And just last week, the state government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Global Education Counselling Limited, Cyprus, the supposed private partners for the institution, for the commencement of academic activities at the university by January 2017.
