Rivers Reruns: Putting An End To The Vicious Cycle

Saturday, December 10, 2016 would be a remarkable day for Rivers State. It is the day set aside by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the remaining parliamentary rerun elections in about eight local government areas of the state where the elections are yet to be concluded. Whether its remarkability would turn out negative or positive would to a large extent be up to the various actors to decide. This decision would be predicated on their actions, statements and intentions. It would also be up to their supporters, cronies, foot soldiers and the instructions or inferences they would have given them. It would be beyond the scope of the efforts or intentions of the electoral umpire to make the day worthwhile.
