Why FIFA Reschedules 2022 World Cup

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be the 22nd edition of the quadrennial international men's football championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA.

Already, Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, recently confirmed that the 2022 World Cup will kick off on November 21 with the final match played on December 18- just a week before Christmas in Qatar.

This will be the first time the world's football showpiece will be changed from a summer date to the Christmas period.

TNN can authoritatively report that previous World Cup championships that were hosted by nations in the past were conducted during the June and July period of the year.

Consequent on this new development, various football associations will have to adjust their calendars for their respective domestic leagues which usually kicks off between August and September and end in May.

It will be recalled that Qatar, a Middle East nation, was handed the hosting rights of the 2022 World Cup in 2014 and considering the intense heat in the country during the June to July period, the competition have been moved to November21- December 18, 2022.

During this end of the yearperiod, Qatari weather averages around 20 degrees Celsius in November which will be friendly to visitors.
