Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke has said that the LG Warriors football team of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, in the state was selected to square up with the state legislators in a novelty match to mark its 25th anniversary as a mark of recognition of ALGON's location within the democratic architecture.
He made the position known at a post match press briefing. The legislators had won the match 4-2. The Assembly's football team, the Iron-seal had the speaker as its skipper.
The speaker said the match was also a demonstration of the cordial relationship that existed between the state legislature and the Assembly.
According to the speaker, "the only sets of people close to the grassroots are the members of the House of Assembly and local government chairmen. They are the people that understand the deeper yearnings and aspirations of the people.
“It is equally very significant in some other clime, the house of Assembly looks down on ALGON. What you have witnessed today is in furtherance of the mutual understanding that had existed.”
He commended them for displaying a high sense of professionalism in the field, despite being amateurs in the game of football and expressed appreciation to his colleagues for their support in ensuring that they won.
