Ayade's Second Term Agenda Setting And Consolidation

Ayade's Second Term Agenda Setting And Consolidation

It is no longer news that governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has won his re-election.

Ayade's victory was a clear demonstration of the will and the absolute confidence reposed on the governor by the people of Cross River State cutting across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The governor pulled a total of 381, 484 votes to trash the closest rival, APC to second position with 131, 161 votes, beating the main opposition party at the State level with votes difference of 250, 323.

Announcement by the INEC returning officer and Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Warri, Delta State, Professor Akii Ibhadode, disclosed that Governor Ayade won in all the 18 Local Government Areas of the state in a contest that a total of 542,115 voters out of the total of 1, 486.026 registered were accredited.

Winning the polls in all of the 18 LGAs of the state was a clear indication that the people of the state actually appreciated the good work that has been done and is still being carrying out by the State governor and as such the people were and are desirous that he continues with his developmental agenda to the end of eight years.

It would be stating the obvious that Ayade has in the first tenure which will elapse on May 29, undertaken massive development and visionary governance leading to the establishment of many industries and factories, some which have been completed and commissioned while others are ongoing.

Economically viable projects such as the signature projects ( the super highway and the Bakassi Deep Seaport are currently ongoing including the dual carraige way cutting across the northern senatorial district, Boki East-West road, the teachers training and retraining Institute, reference Hospitals, Calachika and CALAPHARM industries, Calabar-Odukpani junction dualization work and the spaghetti fly over bridge, Cocoa processing plant and the Rice Processing factory at Ogoja, among others.

Ayade already has his hands full with great and well planned projects in the first tenure dove-tailing to the second term, the reason for the massive support from the people for him to continue.

It is often most appropriate that it is the man who came up with a vision and fully appreciate the value of such vision that would most likely successfully execute the vision to a logical end, besides the fact that many projects have been abandoned by those who inherited them.

It would be instructive, economically wise and strategically sound for the administration of Ayade to continue with the the ongoing projects and ensure their completion and commissioning before embarking on new ones if time would permit him before his tenure expires on May.29, 2023.

Cross River and the people of the state are desirous that the signature projects designed to draw economic activities and growth to not just Cross River State and the entire South-South and South-East regions, but to equally aggressively ameliorate the problem faced by the states of the North-East region including landlock countries of Chad and and Niger of having to travel long distance to get their goods from the ever congested Lagos seaports are successfully completed and commissioned before the expiration of his second term in 2023.

The CALAPHARM and Calachika factories, the Cocoa processing plant and the Rice processing factory and other projects also need to be completed due to their economic importance to the state and it's development now and in the near future.

In the history of the state, there has never been such a massive Programme of development carried out by any governor in just a tenure as done by Ayade, a near comparison but not a perfect one can only be traced to the early years of the creation of former Cross River State with late U J Esuene, as it's first Military Governor, when massive infrastructural development were Carried out; and the reason for such development was obvious and necessary, taking into consideration that the State was newly created and need infrastructure to function well.

Now that we have collectively reelected Ayade, it is the sincere desire and advice of this writer that Cross Riverians remain committed and supportive of the government so it could fulfill it's Programmes and projects aimed at boosting the state's economy and making it the industrial hub of Nigeria and West Africa subregion.

The second phase of the journey will commence on May 29, and it is hoped that at it's tarmination point on May 29, 2023 all doubting Thomas's would have realized the folly of their actions.
