UKANAFUN: An A’Ibom LGA Where Peace Has Gone On Vacation

Mr. Udosen is a chief security officer with one of the commercial banks in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. He visited his village at Nkek Urua Uko village in Ukanafun Local Government Area during the last Easter holiday. As soon as he alighted from the motorbike that brought him from the popular Amiamia Owo junction, his mother screamed “why are you here?” This was strange, given that he expected a warm reception from a mother longing to see her son, especially during the Easter festivities.


WASCO: An A’Ibom School In Need Of Govt's Attention

The school is widely known as WASCO; that is the Western Annang Secondary Commercial School. There is hardly anyone from Akwa Ibom State who would not know this school located in Ukanafun Local Government. It is one of the oldest secondary schools in the state. In the early 70s when the school was born, it was always a thing of pride to tell people that you have been offered admission to study there. There used to be competition. To get in there, you just have to be sound upstairs. It was one school that people who lived in distance places like Lagos would send their children to go and study. Distance was not an issue. What was important was the quality of training and the facilities it had.


Ayade’s Men Fight For Oil Palm Estate

There is war in Boki local government area of Cross River State. It is not a communal war per se. It is a bloody clash between two top government functionaries. Surprisingly, those at the centre of the clash are indigenes of Boki. They are currently occupying top positions in the Ben Ayade government.
