The race for the 2019 governorship election in Cross River State has commenced in earnest as a banker and youth leader, John Upan Odey Jr has thrown his hat in the ring to vie for the exalted position.
Odey, an indigene of Obudu in the northern senatorial district of Cross River State had in 2011 contested to represent Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku federal constituency on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). He contested against other top politicians including one time acting governor of the state; Mr. Francis Ada who flew the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Odey told TNN in an exclusive chat that he was on a mission to rescue the state from years of miss-governance.
“I had contested for the House of Representatives in 2011 but it took the impunity of the then ruling party, and the personal intervention of (the then) Governor Liyel Imoke to manipulate the electoral process. But as a spartan who does not give up, I am back, and with a bang, and will soon officially declare my interest in order to salvage the state from the hands of the old order and once again return it to the youths.
“As a husband and father of three lovely children, I am somebody who believes that the future of our children in the state must be secured, so like John-the-Baptist, I have come to secure the future of the millions of children of Cross River State who must not be allowed to be losers in a competitive world dictated by digital technology.
“The youths of the state must capitalize on the opportunity provided by their one of their own , John Upan Odey Jr. to secure their future by throwing their weights behind him when he eventually steps forward to lead them to the promised land.''
