Amb. Igali Commissions Izon Nation Secretariat

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Boladei Godknows Igali has commisioned a temporary secretariat of an apolitical pressure group tagged Izon Nation in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital.

 

The governorship hopeful, while performing the commissioning ceremony, thanked the founders of the organization for promoting the course of the Izon Nation, which he described as one of the major ethnic groups in the country.

The retired Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, who is also a grand patron of the group urged founders of the Izon Nation not to allow the objectives of the organization to be hijacked by politicians.

"We are commissioning this office to enable them to work. Their objectives include: employment generation, creating awareness among the youths and people of the Ijaw Nation and bringing them together in unity.

"These are very lofty objectives for the youths and development of Bayelsa state. For Bayelsa to be developed, we need youths to be conscious and be employed to work.

"As we commision this office today, our hope is that you will do a reach out to the communities and galvanizing our youths to be part of the development, that's why we are here. We congratulate you", Igali added, promising to continue his partnership with the group.

In his opening addelress, the Bayelsa state administrative head of the group, Mr. Gbasinghan Ajosi commended Amb. Igali for his support for the group and for honouring their invitation to commision the office, describing him as a man that has a passion for the development of the Ijaw Nation.

He said the vision of the founder of the organization, Mr. Ebi Francis who is based in Lagos state was to unite all Ijaws across board irrespective of political differences.

He pointed out that the group would be rolling out people oriented programmes to better the lives of the Ijaw people through job creation and human empowerment.

Ajosi emphasized that the idea behind the formation of the group was for the Ijaws to imbibe a paradigm shift in their approach towards greatness, stressing that the key to the development of any people was unity of purpose.

"If the Ijaw Nation must rise to that point of greatness that we all deserve, we must jettison those things that disunite us and front for the things that bring us together. We must speak one voice.

"This organization aims to bring the youths together in unity, self realisation and job opportunities irrespective of our political affiliations, Ajosi said".
